Dear 2025 Moms, Your Birth Stories Redefined Strength: A Letter From Your Doula

Dear Moms,
If there’s one thing you showed me again and again in 2025, it’s how strong you are. And as we move into 2026, I’m holding onto this truth: Mothers carry incredible strength within them. It doesn’t always look like the version of strength we imagine, but that in itself makes it even more powerful. It’s honest, vulnerable, and full of love.
I’ve seen it as a roar as your baby comes earthside.
As a quiet whisper to your husband: “I’m scared.”
I’ve seen it as you say “no,” with a confident—and sometimes shaky—voice.
As you focus on the next breath while your legs tremble beneath you.
I’ve seen it as you ask questions when things don’t quite make sense.
As tears pour out when they suddenly do.
I’ve seen it as you build a support team you trust, because this time around you want things to be different.
As you quietly share the worries you’ve been carrying.
I’ve seen it as you tell your nurse that the epidural is indeed “not epidural-ing.”
As you grip my hand when birth throws you a curveball and speeds beyond your comprehension.
I’ve seen it when doubt enters the room—and you dig deep and respond inwardly with one small but powerful word: “Bet.”
As you journal, pray, walk, stretch, and make space in your life for therapy and chiropractic appointments.
I’ve seen it as you do your best to stay patient, stay sane, and rest when labor lingers longer than you ever imagined it would.
As you allow room for all the feelings—joy, longing, gratitude, confusion, peace, and disappointment—sometimes all at once.
Merriam-Webster defines strength as “the ability to resist being moved or broken by a force.” The strength I’ve witnessed in you does exactly that. It holds you together. It honors your intuition. It radiates truth, and love. It has the power to hold generations together.
So as your doula, I thank you. Thank you for the privilege of being a part of your story. Thank you for showing me this strength—and for reminding me of my own.
As 2026 begins, I can’t imagine a more valuable lesson to carry forward.
With love,
Kim
